The CM demanded that the Center should give clarity on its stand to clear the rice stock during the Rabi season. The CM asked that the Center procure 40 lakh metric tonnes of rice stock in the Kharif season in 2020-21, as 90 per cent of the rice stock has been cleared from Punjab.

Claiming that the state contributes to national food security by producing more paddy and other crops, he said that they have addressed past drought and hunger conditions and created a huge food grain surplus state.

Stating that Telangana provides farmers Rs 10,000 per acre and free electricity 24 hours a day to boost agricultural production, the CM said FCI needs to clear the rice stock from the states to reach its mandated target every year. needed. Despite increasing agricultural production every year, FCI is lagging behind due to not keeping pace.

The Center is to procure the remaining 5 lakh metric tonnes of rice in the 2020-21 rabi season.

The FCI’s attitude creates confusion among farmers in the states and the Center should immediately rectify such problems, the CM said, adding that he met Food and Civil Supplies Minister Piyush Goyal in September to avoid confusion and increase the availability of rice stocks. However, 50 days have passed and no proper response has been received from the Center on the rice stock, he said.

He also attached a letter to Union Food and Civil Supplies Minister Piyush Goyal. The CM said that all states should be treated equally.

Telangana Finance Minister Harish Rao also slammed the Center for being biased towards the state over rice stocks. “Why does the Modi government buy rice from Punjab and not from our state,” he asked.
