Telangana: 1,000 year old Jain idols found. Hyderabad News – Times of India

Hyderabad: Treasure hunters have allegedly mutilated 1,000-year-old Jain Sculptures On Kondapochamma Village In Jagdevpur Mandal of Siddipet. Archaeologists said that one of the two sculptures did not have a head and the other was found broken in the lower part.
He said that the two Jain idols are of historical importance and should be preserved. The idols were unearthed during debris removal on a hill called ‘Nagapuru Engutta’ located on the outskirts of Kondapochamma.

Remains of Temples at the Site
Archaeologist E Siva Nagi Reddy, who arrived at the site, said: “The idol of Mahavira at 4.5 feet in height at Dhyanmudra is headless and the Chaumukha which is 1.5 feet wide and 2.5 feet high, is broken at the bottom.”
The two sculptures date back to the 10th century AD, representing symbolic features of the Kalyana Chalukyas who ruled the region. Nagi Reddy said that the hill was studded with the remains of Jain basidis (temples) in foundations and brick walls.
