This year Hartalika Teej is falling on Thursday, September 9, 2021. On this auspicious day, devotees observe fast, make clay idols, take vows and perform puja. It is believed that worshiping Lord Shiva and Parvati on this Teej brings marital happiness and prosperity.

According to the Hindu calendar, Hartalika Teej is one of the most important Teej celebrated on Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada.

The auspicious time of Hartalika Teej will start from 2:33 am and will continue till 12:18 pm on 10th September. Worship can be done in the morning as well as in Pradosh Kaal.

Pratah Kaal Muhurta will start from 6:03 am and will continue till 8:33 am. Whereas Pradosh Kaal Muhurta will run from 6:33 pm to 8:51 pm.

According to Hindu traditions, it is believed that worshiping the Shiva family on this day brings happiness and prosperity in the family. On this day married women come together to worship and celebrate the day by observing Nirjala Vrat, preparing delicious prasad, performing puja, singing folk songs and chanting mantras to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. .

Married women gather on this day and celebrate this day with enthusiasm. They wear beautiful dress, jewellery, apply mehndi and seek blessings for their married life.

The day begins with a bath early in the morning. Then clean the place of worship and decorate it with flowers and earthen lamps.

The festival begins by preparing clay idols of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesha. After placing the idols, the devotees take a vow to complete the fast with dedication.

Delicious sweet dishes are prepared and offered to the deity, which are then distributed among family and friends.

Shodashopachar worship of Lord Shiva and Parvati is performed. After this the organ worship of Goddess Parvati is done. However, every culture has a different ritual to perform the puja. Finally, the Hartalika Vrat Katha is recited with a group of married women observing the fast.

Food is a quintessential part of this festival. Various types of sweets are prepared and offered as bhog to the deity, which are later distributed and enjoyed with friends and family. Here are some of the food items that are prepared to celebrate the festival of Hartalika Teej.



Gujiya

To make this traditional dish, knead the dough and keep it aside. Next, prepare a delicious stuffing with coconut, jaggery, dry fruits and nuts. Take small balls of the dough, make small puris and put the stuffing, seal the corners. Meanwhile, prepare the syrup and keep it aside. After this deep fry the gujiyas and dip them in sugar syrup and serve.

Kheer

One of the most sacred sweets made in every festival is Kheer. To make a delicious creamy kheer, boil full fat milk and keep stirring. When the milk is reduced to half, add sugar, cream and rice to it. Boil and cook. Lastly garnish with dry fruits and nuts.

Coconut Laddus

To make instant coconut ladoos, just take a pan and add ghee to it. Toss dry fruits and nuts and take out in a plate. Then in the same pan add grated coconut and cook till it turns brown. Then take a tray and put coconut, jaggery, fennel, sesame and dry fruits in it. Serve by rolling the laddus.

If you are observing a Phalahari fast, you can make a quick chaat with chopped fresh fruits like apple, grapes, banana and add a little honey and lemon juice to enhance the taste.

Dal Kachori

This dish is not served as prasad, but it is one of the most favorite dishes of Teej. To make instant Kachori to celebrate the day. Just knead the dough, make small puris. Meanwhile, prepare a spicy stuffing with boiled lentils, spices and green chillies. Cook the stuffing and pour it into the poori, seal the corners and deep fry. Serve hot with chutney.
