Celebrity-favorite French fashion designer Manfred Thierry Mugler has passed away. He was 73 years old. According to People Magazine, Mugler’s daring designs have also been worn by celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Madonna, Cardi B, Cindy Crawford, George Michael, David Bowie, Nicole Kidman, Megan Fox, Katy Perry, Rihanna and others.

The French designer’s team announced his passing on Sunday, sharing the sad news on his personal Instagram profile with a black square, written in both English and French. “We are devastated to announce the passing of Mr. Manfred Thierry Mugler on Sunday 23 January 2022. May his soul rest in peace,” the caption read.

The cause of his death was not readily available. The announcement in the comments section was met with shock and sadness. “Very sad. Mr. Mugler was a genius,” wrote actor Jennifer Tilly. “Nonnonnono,” remarked model Bella Hadid. “OMG NOOOOO! Mugler has come out of retirement on a few occasions to design costumes for Beyoncé’s 2009 “I Am…” World Tour. In 2019, she wore Kim Kardashian’s dress to the Met Gala, inspired by Sophia Loren in Boy on a Dolphin. “She’s always, it’s an absolute vision of, you know, everything from the hair to the nails,” Kardashian told Mugler’s People Magazine in 2019. “His runway shows were the most famous and iconic runway shows of all time.”
