BHUBANESWAR: Teachers have expressed apprehension over reporting their educational institutions as schools and colleges are back in online mode following a rise in the number of Covid cases in the state.
Many teachers said they rely on public transport to go to school and fear exposure to the fast-spreading virus.
On January 5, the state government had instructed students from class VI to twelfth To go back to online education by 31 January. While students continued to log in from their homes, most schools asked their teachers to come for doubt clearing sessions and take online classes.
“We have been coming to school ever since the students of higher secondary are coming for offline classes. Now that the cases are increasing rapidly, we should be allowed to work from home.” Sukanti BiswalTeacher of a private school here.
The government has said that students can come to the school to clear their doubts, so teachers will also have to come. But primary school teachers said they could conduct classes from home instead of spending hours traveling and exposed to the virus.
“I have diabetes and I have other co-morbidities. Despite this, I am traveling in the bus everyday to come to school. There are many teachers who are facing difficulties and are coming to school without work,” said a 55-year-old teacher khurda District.
However, the headmasters say that when the teachers are coming to school, they are taking classes honestly. “When teachers are taking classes from school they are doing it very honestly but there are a lot of interruptions and disturbances in the house. That’s why it is better that the teachers come to the school as the students have their final exams in the next few months. So they should come to the school to complete the syllabus on time,” said the headmaster of a school, requesting anonymity.
