Tata Motors mocks Mahindra for ‘ZERO’ electric vehicle sales, jokingly compares Nexon EV to XUV400

Tata Motors, the homegrown automaker has a history of poking fun at rival automakers for various reasons. While Tata has targeted its rival brands including Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai in the past for poor safety ratings, now the brand has taken to social media to take a dig at the Mahindra XUV400 over electric vehicle sales in India. In a picture uploaded on Tata’s Tata Passenger Electric Mobility social media handle, Tata Motors compares the Tata Nexon EV with the Mahindra XUV400. The picture reads ‘35,000 > 00’ which compares the sales of the Nexon EV with the Mahindra XUV400.

The Tata Nexon EV is the first high-voltage electric SUV manufactured in India and with its capable nature and absence of a direct rival, the Nexon EV is the best-selling electric car in the country, touching remarkable sales numbers. 35,000 units in India. This makes the Tata Nexon EV far ahead of its rivals and the only electric car to achieve the milestone, prompting Tata Motors to promote the achievement on social media.

However, while doing so, Tata compared the Nexon EV with the yet-to-be-launched Mahindra XUV400, which is supposed to be a direct rival to the Tata Nexon EV MAX and will be the fastest made-in-India electric car according to Mahindra. The Mahindra XUV400 is expected to be launched in India in January 2023 and will offer a driving range of 400+ km.

Since the Mahindra XUV400 is yet to be launched, the brand campaign comparing the Nexon EV with Indian electric SUVs has not gone down well with social media users. Many have pointed to Tata’s intentions to mock Mahindra for zero sales when the vehicle has not hit the Indian roads. There are two variants of Tata Nexon EV on sale – Nexon EV Prime and Nexon EV Max.
