Malkit Singh alias Shera, accused of a massive blast in Punjab’s Tarn Taran on 5 September 2019, died on Tuesday. Shera, who went to Amritsar’s Guru Nanak Dev Hospital for treatment, died due to multiple body part failure. He was suffering from sugar disease.

Two years ago, two people were killed in a blast in Tarn Taran. Police had arrested Shera in this case. After this the matter reached the NIA and a total of 7 more names were added in this case.

Shera had first petitioned for bail in the High Court and then in the Supreme Court on 5 September 2019. But the Supreme Court rejected his application. He was lodged in Amritsar Central Jail. A few days back, Malkit’s health started deteriorating. After which he was admitted to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital. According to the information, Shera’s body organs were slowly deteriorating. Due to which he died. At present, the body has been handed over to the family after postmortem.

There was a plan to kill Sukhbir Badal after the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib
Shera had admitted before the NIA that the bomb exploded in Tarn Taran was meant to blow up former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal. But this plan had failed. Sukhbir was about to visit the Golden Temple on the Prakash Parv of Shri Guru Ramdas ji in November 2016 when a plan was made to attack him. His kingpin is Bikram Singh Panjwad alias Bikkar. As per the plan, as soon as Sukhbir reaches the main entrance of the Golden Temple, first Bikkar will throw a bomb and then Shera. As soon as Sukhbir Badal reached there with heavy security, Bikkar panicked and could not throw the bomb. Later, he buried both the bombs in a steel box and buried them in the ground.

The blast was while taking out a bomb from the ground.
Shera told that training to prepare the blast was given to him and a youth named Gurjant. Bikkar had ordered them to take out the bombs buried in the ground and use them to kill some VIPs. Gurjant and two of his associates Harpreet Singh and Vikramjit were trying to defuse the bomb when the blast took place on 5 September 2019. Harpreet Singh and Vikramjit were killed in the blast and Gurjant was injured.
