Tamil Nadu will allow only vaccinated students inside colleges

Chennai: The Health Department of Tamil Nadu on Friday requested the Ministry of Higher Education to allow only those students who have been vaccinated in colleges and universities to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The Tamil Nadu government took this decision after nine students of a college in Chennai tested positive for COVID-19.

According to PTI, Health Minister Ma Subramaniam said that students and institutions should follow COVID-19 etiquette including wearing of masks and maintaining physical distance. They should also ensure that classes are conducted on rotation basis.

Citing that nine students at Anna University tested positive for COVID-19, the minister said, The Ministry of Higher Education should issue a notice that only vaccinated students will be allowed admission in colleges.

Educational institutions should use disposable plates only for serving food, the minister said and added, stressing that institutions should refrain from conducting cultural or other activities with mass gathering.

The minister said that for conducting graduation ceremonies, the institute should take prior permission and conduct them following all standard operating procedures.

Earlier, a student tested positive for COVID-19 at the Anna University campus hostel on Wednesday, and around 300 other persons from the hostel were tested positive for the virus. Out of the total, nine persons tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The remaining 763 students will also be tested for virus, the minister said.
