In 2019, both the teams were in full force with star-studded players from both the sides. Come Monday, both teams will know that it will be lesser-known players who can play a key role in claiming the trophy. With the match starting at noon, the toss will not be a deciding factor in the outcome of the match. It will be interesting to see who wins the toss and wants to keep the opposite side out of their comfort zone. Tamil Nadu’s strong side is chasing while Karnataka have escaped many scares by defending the total in the knockouts.
Karnataka will be hoping for a big total from their opening pair of Rohan Kadam and Manish Pandey, just like they both did in their 132-run opening stand in the semi-final against Vidarbha. Karun Nair, Abhinav Manohar and the rest of the batting line-up need to capitalize on a good start from Kadam and Pandey. The spin duo of KC Cariappa and Jagadish Suchith have been crucial but Karnataka would like their pace attack from Vidyadhar Patil, Vijaykumar Vaishak and MB Darshan to show some more discipline, especially in the first six overs. Playing tough matches in the pre-quarterfinals, quarterfinals and semi-finals means that Karnataka are in a tight fight.
Tamil Nadu, on the other hand, have covered all their bases by standing with different players taking responsibility in different matches. Their top three of N Jagadeesan, C Hari Nishant, and B Sai Sudarshan have to do a great job of scoring so that captain Vijay Shankar and lower-order hitter M Shah Rukh Khan can make a big end at the end. Their spinners R Sai Kishore, R Sanjay Yadav and Murugan Ashwin have been great at doing a decent job while taking wickets. If T Natarajan is not fit, then semi-final five-round hero P Saravana Kumar may retain his place in the playing XI for the final.
Come Monday, some intense cricket can be expected between the two teams, all too familiar in the national capital, adding another chapter to the southern derby.
