Tamil Nadu: Rs 13 lakh recovered from over 6,300 people for not wearing masks in Chennai

Chennai: 6,372 people were fined for not wearing masks within Chennai Municipal Corporation limits in four days. On Sunday itself, out of more than 6,300 people, 2,010 people were fined. According to a report in The Hindu, more and more Chennai Corporation and police personnel worked collectively to monitor whether people were following the COVID guidelines and collected Rs 12.74 lakh in four days.

This special drive to monitor the people following the COVID guidelines in the capital will continue till September 26 and has started from September 16. The Chennai Corporation Commissioner and the City Police Commissioner in a meeting have taken an initiative to intensify this drive.

The Greater Chennai Corporation has set up volunteers to create awareness among people about wearing masks.

From Thursday, zonal enforcement teams started fining those who are violating the COVID norms in the city, especially in large gatherings like malls, market places and temples. Surveillance teams have been deployed under the campaign.

15 zonal enforcement teams were formed to keep a watch on the violators of Kovid. Besides, over 200 police personnel and 1,000 volunteers are also monitoring the violators.
