Tamil Nadu politicians join one-word Twitter trend | Chennai News – Times of India

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu politicians on Friday joined the one-word trend on Twitter with cryptic tweets on the ideologies they stand for.
Chief minister M K Stalin posted ‘Dravidam’, seeking to affirm his “Dravida Model” governance of inclusiveness, while leader of the opposition, Edappadi K Palaniswami tweeted “Tamil Nadu”. His rival and former CM O Panneerselvam tweeted, “Thondargal” (cadres).
The DMK has been scaling up propaganda on Dravidam to counter the BJP making inroads into the state. In his recent address to the cadres of other parties joining the DMK in Pollachi, Stalin said, “The word Dravidam encompasses all our ideals. Dravidam stands for the principles of social justice, equality, humanitarian approach, love for language, racial rights, state autonomy and cooperative federalism. In all, it stands for everything for everyone”. The IT wing of the DMK celebrates September as “Dravida Maatham,” a month of Dravidam, since birthdays of social reformist Periyar, DMK founder C N Annadurai and the DMK founding day fall in the same month. The wing engages in taking to the masses the history of the party’s growth, personalities involved, achievements and governance.
PMK founder S Ramadoss posted ‘Samooganeethi’ (social justice), VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan tweeted ‘Jananayagam’ (democracy) and NTK chief Seeman tweeted, “Tamildesiyam” (Tamil nationalism) to imply the principles of their respective parties. BJP state president K Annamalai’s ‘Tamilan’ triggered backlash from his political opponents, who posted the former IPS officer’s speech in Kannada while in service, claiming that he was a proud Kannadiga. V K Sasikala joined the trend with ‘Ottrumai’ (unity) as she has been emphasising unity among the AIADMK cadres, while her nephew TTV Dhinakaran said ‘Amma’, remembering late chief minister J Jayalalithaa.
The popular trend continued to storm the social media platform on Saturday. MNM leader Kamal Haasan gained more traction among political party leaders in the state, other than chief minister M K Stalin. The actor’s tweet ‘Makkal’ (people) was liked by 24.5K people by Saturday evening. The chief minister’s tweet received 25K likes since Friday night.
