Coimbatore: A cop was suspended in Tiruppur on Friday after he hatched a conspiracy with his younger brother and another person and attempted to break into the sub-treasury office in Palladam a few weeks ago.
Palladam police said 37-year-old K Ravichandran, a Grade-I police constable from Astalakshmi Nagar on Mangalam Road, had suffered heavy losses in the online rummy game and was on the run while they managed to nab the other two accused. , Police has formed a special team to arrest Ravichandran, attached to Mangalam police station.
An investigating officer said that 51-year-old N Meenakshi Sundaram, assistant treasury officer of the Palladam sub-treasury office had lodged a complaint with him on November 8, stating that unidentified persons had broken into the office and the strong room was destroyed. Based on the treasury officer’s complaint, the police registered a case and arrested Ravichandran’s younger brother Boobalan, 35, on November 21 and Senthilkumar, 37, of Paruthikadu near Poovanur in Salem district, on November 23. Said that Boobalan was running a vegetable shop on Market Street in Salem and Senthilkumar was his employee.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Ravichandran along with his younger brother and Senthilkumar had hatched a conspiracy to break into the sub-treasury office as he was in huge debt. “They were unable to break the lock of the strong room and had to return empty-handed. Meanwhile, Ravichandran stopped attending duty from November 20 and went into hiding.
