CHENNAI: State electricity and excise minister V Senthil Balaji’s Twitter handle was hacked and hackers have altered the name of account, apart from posting crypto wallet related messages in Tamil.

The name of the account has been changed as Varivorius and the first message was posted around 2am, which said in Tamil that his party has created a crypto wallet and sought help from the public to achieve growth in energy sector. The message also had a photo of an unknown person. The second message said that they want to generate $1 million to help those affected by Covid-19 followed by another message with a link claiming that the donations will directly go to an NGO.
The account remained verified even after it was hacked.
When contacted, sources close to the minister confirmed that the account was hacked and steps have been initiated to recover it.
Senthil Balaji recently became active on Twitter and a team stationed in Karur had been posting various activities of the minister on the social media page.
Sources suspect that known persons might have hacked the account as the messages appeared in flawless Tamil.
