TIRUVANNAMALAI: Police arrested a 30-year-old man on charges of murdering his lover’s son and attempting to murder another son of hers in a village near Cheyyar in Tiruvannamalai district. The accused, P Vinoth Kumarhails from a village near Panruti in Cuddalore district.
Police said S Narmatha, 26, who was living with her two sons after her husband died five years ago in a road accident at a village near Mathur in Cuddalore district, developed an affair with Vinoth Kumar.
Kumar was then working as a collection agent in a private bank and used to visit the village for collecting money from clients. Narmatha’s parents, on learning about her affair, insisted that she break the relationship. The woman refused and left home with her two sons, one aged six years and the other aged four years. She settled with her sons and lover in a village near Cheyyar after getting a job at a Sipcot industrial unit.
Kumar met with an accident and was not going for work for the last three months. Police said he started consuming excessive alcohol. He also pressurised the woman to abandon her two sons.
Narmatha, on reaching home after work on Monday, was shocked to find her second son lying unconscious on the floor while Kumar was in an inebriated condition. She, along with her neighbors, hastened the boy to Mamandur primary health center where the duty doctor proclaimed him ‘brought dead’. She preferred a complaint with Dusi police station.
Police inquiries revealed that Kumar, under the influence of alcohol, attacked the two boys after Narmatha left for work on Monday. The elder boy, who sustained injuries, managed to escape and ran out of the house, but the younger one could not escape.
Police said the man smashed the boy’s head on the wall, killing him instantly. Police booked him under sections 302 (punishment for murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested him on Tuesday.
