Tamil Nadu Hooch Tragedy: Palaniswami Slams MK Stalin, Calls Him ‘Inept, Puppet CM’

Villupuram: Tamil Nadu Leader of Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami on Tuesday met people undergoing treatment after consuming spurious liquor in the district. The AIADMK general secretary also criticized the ruling DMK over the issue of spurious liquor and alleged no action against those selling illicit liquor. Referring to the Marakkanam hooch tragedy here, he said those undergoing treatment were suffering from several health problems including loss of eyesight.

“It is a sad and shocking incident. This government has not come up with any scheme in the last two years. Action should not be taken against those selling spurious liquor,” he told reporters after meeting the affected people who were undergoing treatment at a government hospital here. Has been.”

The former Chief Minister said that during the AIADMK rule of 2011-21, the issue was dealt with strictly and strict Goondas Act was invoked against those caught selling illicit liquor.

Launching a scathing attack on Chief Minister MK Stalin over the issue, Palaniswami accused the former of being an “inept and puppet chief minister” and sought his resignation.

Taking a dig at the ruling party, Palaniswami said, “There is resentment… They (DMK) had promised that rivers of milk and honey would flow (before the 2021 polls) but now only rivers of liquor are flowing.”

So far 14 people have died after consuming spurious liquor in separate incidents of spurious liquor in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram and Chengalpattu.

CM Stalin has underlined his government’s resolve to eliminate the spurious liquor and drug menace and the government has taken action against several police officers, including suspending the then Villupuram SP.
