Tamil Nadu: Covid cluster takes hold of 3 college hostels in Chennai after 106 students test positive

Chennai: As the novel coronavirus cases rise in Tamil Nadu, new clusters are popping up in the hostels of colleges in Tamil Nadu. On Wednesday, three college clusters were reported among students residing in hostels. The three clusters originated from Stanley Medical College Hospital, Madras Christian College in Chennai and MIT in Chromepet, near Chennai.

According to a report in Times of India, 27 students of Stanley Medical College Hospital tested positive for the virus on Wednesday. Of the 27 students, 14 cases were reported from the male hostel while 13 other cases were reported from the women’s hostel on Wednesday.

Cluster after cluster was reported at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai.

The dean of Stanley MCH said, the students had reportedly traveled to Coorg and tested positive soon after, even before reporting for work. All the students are in isolation.

In another MIT cluster in Chromepet, around 67 out of 169 students tested positive for coronavirus after testing, as seven students tested positive for the virus on December 2021. Out of the total students, 47 male students have been kept in quarantine at Marutham hostel. While six girl students have been quarantined at Ponni Hostel in MIT Chromepet. The rest of the students are being home quarantined.
