Tamil Nadu Covid cases: Tamil Nadu reports 1,851 fresh cases of Covid-19, 28 deaths Coimbatore News – Times of India

CHENNAI: The fresh cases came down from 1,896 on Monday to 1,851 after nine districts including Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi and Ariyalur on Sunday reported a surge in cases.
The highest rise in fresh cases was reported in Thanjavur, where fresh cases rose to 127 from 106 on Sunday, followed by Pudukottai, which saw an increase from 25 to 42 during the same period. Overall, Coimbatore reported the highest number of cases in the state, followed by Chennai and Erode. Nevertheless, Coimbatore reported a decline in new cases from 225 on Sunday to 217 on Monday. There were 85 roads with at least one Covid-19 case in the district.

Chennai, which reported 205 cases compared to 216 on Sunday. After reporting clusters at birthday parties, temple festivals and apartment complexes in the past ten days, the Greater Chennai Corporation said till Monday morning at least four roads had more than 10 cases and 21 streets had more than six cases. By the end of June, there were only two roads in the city with more than 10 cases each.
“During contact tracing and analysis, we found that most of the outbreaks occurred when social distancing norms were violated. Health secretary J Radhakrishnan said most people who had severe symptoms and needed to be hospitalized were not vaccinated. “These small clusters have slowed the rate of decline. The fresh cases in many districts are stable for almost a month now,” he said.
Out of 28 deaths, four each in Chennai and Tiruppur, three in Cuddalore, two each in Thanjavur and Trichy. While 13 districts reported one death each, 20 districts reported zero deaths.
Meanwhile, 4.01 lakh people got vaccinated at government centers on Monday, taking the cumulative dose count to 2.49 crore. Since May 1, 18.48 lakh doses have been given in private hospitals.
Cases drop below 900 in Puducherry
The active Covid-19 cases in Puducherry fell below 900 on Monday. The union territory recorded 49 new cases, even as 86 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, which ended at 10 am on Monday, leading to a decrease in active cases.
892. Of these, 700 are in home isolation and treatment and the remaining 192 are in different hospitals. The area did not report any deaths on Monday. Healthcare authorities have given 7.64 lakh COVID-19 vaccines so far.
Madurai Medical College reopens
Madurai Medical College, along with other medical colleges across the state, was reopened for students on Monday after months of online classes. COVID-19 safety precautions are being taken to ensure the premises are virus free. Dr A Rathinvel, Dean of Madurai Medical College said that the college has been reopened with the COVID-19 safety SOPs being compulsorily followed by the government.
