Tamil Nadu Budget Highlights: Here are the major announcements by the DMK government

Chennai: Nearly three months after coming to power, the DMK government on Friday presented its first budget at Chennai’s Kalaivanar Arangam. The revised budget for the financial year 2021-22 is the first paperless budget session held in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.

Ahead of presenting the budget, Finance Minister PTR Palanivel Thyaga Rajan released a white paper on state finances earlier this week. The government has decided to present a separate budget for the Agriculture Department on Saturday. Presenting the budget, the Finance Minister said that the state’s revenue for the financial year is estimated at Rs 2,60,409.26 crore, while the expenditure is estimated at Rs 2,61,188.57 crore. The revenue deficit is estimated to be Rs 58,692.68 crore.

  • Tamil Nadu government has cut state excise duty on petrol by Rs. As a result, the government will suffer a loss of Rs 1160 crore.
