BJP spokesperson and longtime party member KT Raghavan has resigned from all party posts after a social media video released by YouTuber Madan Ravichandran purportedly showed him on an “inappropriate video call” with a woman.
Raghavan has denied the allegations and said he will take legal action. Announcing his resignation, Raghavan said in a social media post, “Dharma will win.” The spokesperson said he had talks with state BJP leader K Annamalai.
Ravichandran has claimed that Annamalai had consent to release the video. The Youtuber displayed a WhatsApp chat in which the state BJP leader said that the video should be released if it is believed that justice is to be won for the woman.
In a detailed statement to the press, Annamalai said that he was already well aware of the video, but did not act as Madan had “conditioned that the party should punish Raghavan”.
Annamalai said in the statement that the YouTuber had released the clip after repeatedly saying that he would not take action against Raghavan on the basis of the video. “I am sure Raghavan will come out of this and clear his name,” the BJP said.
Ravichandran was a television journalist in the state before starting his own YouTube channel, which used to organize heated debates. His channel Madan Ki Diary has 1.41 lakh subscribers.
Raghavan, a lawyer by profession, was the spokesperson of the party for years. He was also the state general secretary-BJP. Apart from being involved in televised debates, he has also been involved in party building work in the Kancheepuram district of Chennai for many years.
