Tamil actor and politician Captain Vijayakanth recently had to amputate his toe at a private hospital in Chennai following a doctor’s advice. Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) chief was suffering from diabetes and doctors said that the blood flow was not smooth in the toe of his right foot. The DMDK party revealed that the doctor had recommended that three fingers be removed through surgery and the surgery took place on Monday.

The party said that the DMDK leader is being closely monitored by doctors and is doing fine and requested his fans and followers not to believe any rumours doing the rounds on social media. The statement further said that he was undergoing treatment at the hospital and would return home in a few days after the completion of the treatment.
Vijayakanth started his political party in 2005. In the 2006 election, his party ran and got 8.4% of the vote. Several political experts lauded the performance as it led the party to two big leaders from Tamil Nadu, M. Karunanidhi and J.J. Allowed to win votes within a year during Jayalalithaa’s height.
After a dispute with the then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, the DMDK severed its ties with the AIADMK and sided with the BJP in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, where it was badly defeated. The party’s downfall started after his terrible performance in the 2016 assembly elections.
