Resource-rich Xinjiang shares an 80-km-long border with Afghanistan. However, downplaying China’s concerns, Taliban spokesman Suhail Shaheen said that they see China as a friend of Afghanistan and look forward to talking to Beijing about investing in the reconstruction work as soon as possible.

Uighur fighters sought asylum
Suhail said the Taliban would not allow Chinese Uighur separatist fighters to enter the country. In fact, some of them had sought asylum in Afghanistan in the past. The spokesman said the Taliban would prevent al-Qaeda or any other terrorist organization from operating there. Suhail told Hong Kong newspaper ‘South China Morning Post’ that we have good relations with China.
