As reported by TOLOnews, the Taliban in its new decree has asked students and teachers to stop wearing neckties in schools in Afghanistan. The Directorate of Education, Ministry of Education, Afghanistan said in an official letter that students and teachers are no longer allowed to wear neckties in schools.

However, Ehsanullah Khatab, the head of the Kabul education department, said, “The official order issued by the education department regarding the hijab and ties was just a directive.”

However, Aziz Ahmed Rayan, spokesman for the Ministry of Education of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, clarified that the wearing of ties in schools has been completely banned.

Since the Taliban took over the country in August last year, the country’s women have been the worst sufferers, with their going to work as well as having access to education banned, Tolonews reports.

All schools in Kabul have been asked to closely observe the Islamic hijab for female students, citing an official order from the Taliban administration.

It comes as secondary schools for girls are yet to be reopened across Afghanistan, while boys are allowed to attend classes at all levels.

In another statement, the Taliban recently announced that the reopening of girls’ schools is close to finalization and that the schools will be reopened once the plan is ready. The closure of schools for girls has sparked backlash not only in Afghanistan but also within the country and even among pro-Taliban celebrities.

Almost all Afghans (94 percent) consider their lives so bad that they are considered victims since the Taliban took over the country, which has a population of about 40 million, according to a Tolonews report.

The survey additionally noted that Afghanistan has the highest level of suffering measured for any country since 2005.
