Take measures to operate NTC mills, urge workers. Coimbatore News – Times of India

Coimbatore: Members of the Coimbatore District Textile Workers’ Union on Friday filed a petition to Chief Minister MK Stalin urging him to take necessary steps to operate the National Textile Corporation (NTC) mills in accordance with the lockdown restrictions in the state.
According to union president TS Rajamani, all the seven NTC mills – five mills in Coimbatore and one each in Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga districts – were closed in April 2020 following the lockdown imposed to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
But even after the government relaxed the lockdown norms and allowed the industries/mills to follow the lockdown restrictions, the mills did not operate.
Following this, the trade unions staged several protests demanding higher-ups to operate the mills.
“After persistent protests, the central government had allowed three mills to operate – one each in Coimbatore, Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram districts – with 50% manpower. They refused to operate the remaining mills citing several reasons including paucity of funds,” he said.
With the help of Members of Parliament, we met Central Government officials and they assured us that all remaining NTC mills will be gradually brought into operational phase before March 31, 2021, he said and added that nothing on the ground is applicable. Has been done. .
