T20 World Cup: ‘You need a break’ – Jasprit Bumrah says India are suffering from ‘bubble fatigue’

After their second loss in the Twenty20 World Cup, pacer Jasprit Bumrah said India are battling ‘bubble fatigue’ amid the COVID-19 pandemic and players are feeling the effects of being on the road for six months.

India slipped to fifth place in Group II after losing to New Zealand by eight wickets in the Super 12 stage on 31 October and winning the remaining three matches may not be enough to make it to the semi-finals.

Players have been on the road since the Indian Premier League (IPL) season began in April. The Test team also toured England ahead of the Covid-hit IPL which resumed in the United Arab Emirates in September.

Asked if the team was tired after the IPL season that ended a week before the World Cup, Bumrah told reporters, “Absolutely, sometimes you need a break. You miss your family. You’ve been on the road for six months.”

“So all that plays in the back of your mind sometimes. But when you’re on the field, you don’t think about all those things… obviously living in a bubble and away from your family for so long Staying away plays a role.”

“BCCI also tried its best to make us feel comfortable…it is a difficult time. There is a pandemic going on, so we try to adapt but sometimes there is bubble fatigue, mental fatigue as well. “

India went 48-4 down in the 11th over against New Zealand and Bumrah said the batting unit was trying to score runs as he felt dew would be a factor for bowlers in the run chase.

“We tried to give us some cushion. We wanted to score extra runs so that we could have an advantage in the second innings,” Bumrah said.
