T20 World Cup | ‘Turning Point Was Dropped Catch By Hasan Ali’: Babar Azam After Loss To Australia

Captain Babar Azam reveals the turning point of Semi-Final 2 of 2021 t20 world cup, where Pakistan suffered a five-wicket loss to Australia in the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Pakistan, who controlled the game till the 15th over of the innings, looted a lot of runs in the business end. Matthew Wade hit Shaheen Shah Afridi for three consecutive sixes to seal the game with six balls to spare for Australia.

After the defeat, Babar said that the team performed brilliantly with the bat and scored well in front of Australia. Babar, however, admitted that it was Wade’s dropped catch by Hasan Ali that was the turning point of the game.

“I thought we scored as many runs as we had planned in the first innings. I think if we give chance to such teams in the back end it will be costly. The turning point was a dropped catch. Had we taken it, the scenario could have been different,” Babar said in the post-match presentation.

Hassan dropped Wade to the boundary rope in the third ball of the final over and after that, the southpaw smashed Shaheen for back-to-back sixes to drive Australia to the end.

Babar, who captained Pakistan for the first time in any limited overs ICC event, was satisfied with his team’s performance throughout the tournament.

“I am satisfied as a captain with the way we have played and played the entire tournament. Hopefully we will learn from this for the next tournament.”

Pakistan was the only team to win all their matches in the Super 12 stage as they defeated India, New Zealand, Scotland, Namibia and Afghanistan to reach the semi-finals.
