T20 World Cup: Proud moment, says Namibia’s Gerhard Erasmus, while Scottish Rouge decides first over

Namiba captain Gerhard Erasmus described his team’s win over Scotland in Super 12 as another proud moment of their maiden T20 World Cup campaign but wants his players to step up their game against top teams in the competition.

“Happy to win another World Cup, another proud moment for the team. From here we have to raise our level. We are excited for the challenge. Hopefully we can execute on those days,” Erasmus said after the four-wicket win.

“It was always about showing good intention. Luckily we found a few partnerships to cross the line. Reuben (Trumpelman) sets high standards. Admits he didn’t kill the bandages, but is overjoyed that he came out of here and killed her.

“It gave us an opportunity to start well and bowl the first punch. Quite a big (celebration of victory), very proud moment. We savor it with the small Namibian group out here and everyone back home. Small but very proud country. We give it back to their house,” said the captain.

Ruben Trumpelmann returned his T20 best figures of 3-17 in his sixth international in the shortest format. The left-arm pacer struck the first ball of the match and then scored two runs off two consecutive deliveries including Richie Berrington.

Namibia next face Afghanistan, followed by Pakistan, New Zealand and India.

Meanwhile, Scotland’s stand-in captain Richard Berrington, assessing his team’s performance, said they were 20-30 runs short.

“It was difficult to recover after that kind of first over (where they lost three wickets). We just needed a partnership. I thought Lisk and Cross played well. 120 would have given us a better chance.”

“It was important that we put the Afghanistan game behind us. We were confident today, but we didn’t execute. We have a few days to reflect and recover,” he said.

It was the second consecutive defeat for the Scottish team that will take on New Zealand on 3 November, before India and Pakistan play on 5 November and 7 November respectively.
