T20 World Cup 2021: South Africa out of the tournament; England and Australia enter semi-finals

Rassi van der Dussen scored an unbeaten 94 as South Africa beat England by 10 runs, but failed to qualify for the semi-finals. t20 world cup on Saturday.

Group 1 winners England and Australia beat West Indies in the opening match of the day to make it to the last four from a pool of six teams.

South Africa scored 189 for two after hitting six sixes in Van de Dussen’s 60-ball knock, but needed to restrict England to 131 or less to knock Australia out of the net run-rate.

England, who topped the group with 109 runs, finished at 179-8 after a hat-trick from Kagiso Rabada in the final over. This was England’s first defeat in five matches.

Van der Dussen and Aiden Markram, who scored 52 runs in 25 balls, put up an unbeaten 103 not out for the third wicket and gave their team a challenging score.

England elected to field first and Moeen Ali bowled Reeza Hendrix for two runs.

Quinton de Kock and van der Dussen rebuilt the innings with their second wicket of 71 runs.

Adil Rashid broke the stand as he dismissed de Kock for 34 with his leg spin.

But van der Dussen stood firm and blended the right dose of caution and aggression to complete his fifty in 37 balls.

After this he along with Markram attacked the bowlers. The pair attacked Chris Woakes in their fourth over – the 16th over of the innings, adding 21 runs with three sixes between them.

Markram completed his half-century in 24 balls with a six off Chris Jordan. He hit two fours and four sixes.

In reply, England started well with Jason Roy and Jos Buttler hitting boundaries in the first four overs.

But Roy suffered a calf injury while taking a run with Butler and had to help him off the field.

South Africa took advantage of the opportunity and in the next over, Enrique Nortje sent Butler back for 26. Tabrez Shamsi lbw Jonny Bairstow for one run.

Moeen and David Malan, who scored 37 off 27 balls, came back into a 51-run partnership but Shamsi once again applied the brakes.

Moeen hit a big six off Shamsi, but was dismissed on the next ball in an attempt to hit another big six, which went straight into the hands of David Miller.

Malan continued the attack with Liam Livingston, who smashed Rabada for three consecutive sixes in the chase despite losing his partner in the next over.

But Livingstone was dismissed for 28 and the South African bowlers took the lead. Rabada sent back Chris Woakes, captain Eoin Morgan and Chris Jordan for a third hat-trick of the tournament.
