T20 World Cup 2021: Captain Aaron Finch lauds Adam Zampa for world-class performance against Sri Lanka

Finch said he would have liked if David Warner had received the player of the match award for his 65 but admitted that Adam Zampa deserved his world-class spell.

Australia captain Aaron Finch heaped praise on leg-spinner Adam Zampa for his match-winning spell against Sri Lanka. t20 world cup Thursday game. Zampa took the crucial wicket of Charit Aslanka, which led to a short collapse as Sri Lanka could manage only 154 runs, which the winner crossed in 17 overs.

Finch said after a solid start from Sri Lanka, Zampa transferred the momentum along the way to Australia and restricted them to a chasing total. The leggie bowled a total of 12 dot deliveries in his four-over spell.

“That was a really good performance. SL got off to a flight. But Zampa pulled it back, and then Starc. We thought it was a really good wicket and it was good to chase,” Finch told the match said at the end.

It was because of Zampa that Sri Lanka did not gain the required pace during those middle overs despite some brilliant shots in the middle. He was highly praised by Mitchell Starc, who also took two wickets to trigger the collapse

Asked who was his man of the match between Warner and Zampa, Finch said: “As a batsman, I would have preferred a batsman to get the award, but when you were looking at the impact on the game , so tonight Zamps was great. He was brilliant, got big wickets. It was a world-class performance from his side,’ he said.

Warner, who has gone through a lean patch, was back in his element as his 10 fours made it easy for Australia to chase down the target with three overs to spare.

Australia will next take on arch-rivals England at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday. England are currently at the top of the Group 1 standings.
