T20 WC: An early exit for West Indies cricket, aging stars, and a lot more work to do

However, Pollard’s remarks were an eye-opener for cricket administrators in the Caribbean after Thursday’s 20-run loss against Sri Lanka.

The attacking batsman asked Cricket West Indies (CWI) to start another tournament, apart from the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), to find “new talent” after being knocked out of the race for the semi-finals.

“One of the things that we need to do for us, especially in the Caribbean, is we need to have another tournament apart from the CPL (Caribbean Premier League), where we can explore new talent,” Pollard said.

Pollard, 34, who himself was plagued by poor form in the tournament, highlighted that the same players were being “recycled” over and over again, with little or no communication of new talent.

“When we had Caribbean T20, it was an opportunity for people to bring in new talent from different parts of the Caribbean and we have been able to have a kind of nucleus for this previous generation as well, but after the CPL came From, yes, this is a franchise-based system, but we only have the opportunity to recycle a single player over and over again.

“So this is something that we need to look at but there are some cricketers and a lot of young cricketers looking forward to playing and contributing to West Indies cricket. It is something for me personally that I am excited about and it will be a generation But Pollard said, ‘There should be a lot of conversation about how club cricket, or even the CPL, is going to make a difference in international cricket, because it’s a big step.’

“I think in between, we need another tournament. If you look around the world, there are other teams, and for us I’m looking forward to it and I’m very excited. Hopefully we can find The right mix of these youngsters is coming in and propelling us forward and hopefully contribute to the success in West Indies cricket.”
