Foxconn Chairman Young Liu to inaugurate Tea Works, a Telangana government initiative to promote product innovation

India’s largest prototyping center T Works will be inaugurated by Foxconn Chairman Young Liu in Hyderabad on Thursday at 5.30 pm. The facility aims to handhold entrepreneurs as they journey from an idea to a product. The center will help in the design and manufacture of a prototype using state-of-the-art equipment, design tools and advice in all areas.

Giving a glimpse of the center on Wednesday, Telangana’s Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (ITE&C) Minister K Taraka Rama Rao said: “Te Works is a unique initiative of the Telangana government. The Prototyping Center with its state-of-the-art facilities and equipment will accelerate India’s journey to become a leader in product innovation.”

Speaking to News18, Dr. Premnath Basa, materials scientist and co-founder of SpruceGel, explained how this facility will help innovators. “I met a team from Tea Works at an event organized for the Association for Lady Entrepreneurs of India. He explained about the facilities available for the budding entrepreneurs. I think it is a very valuable asset for innovators as the machinery and infrastructure available at the center can help them create attractive prototypes. In addition, the expert staff present there can advise the thinkers on how to arrive at the physical manifestation of their ideas. They can guide you on what you think is the best way to build a prototype,” he said.

Spaces currently available at the facility include laser cutting and engraving, test lab (environmental, vibration, metrology), electronics lab, 3D printing, metal and wood shops, garage space, ceramics studio, library, and retail store.

“T Works is for non-IT products and services. It is into manufacturing physical products. For example, they have advanced 3D printing that lets you build your prototypes in a very short amount of time. If you If you want to make a water bottle out of metal, you will have to dedicate at least three weeks to it. There will be various stages like design and manufacturing. But with a 3D printer, you can get a single prototype done within a day. Having a functional and attractive prototype can go a long way in convincing businesses to invest in your product,” said Dr. Basa.

Student innovator Vadla Pranavi, who is the co-founder of Porcini Parcels, said that Tea Works is the right platform for innovators to dream without fear. “T Works is the right place for all innovators to reach out for further development of their products. They listen to problem statements and idea prototypes and help us design or fine-tune it.
