Tamil Nadu defeated Karnataka in a thrilling final to win the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021-22 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Monday. Needing five runs to win off the last ball, Shah Rukh Khan (33*) hit a six off Prateek Jain, creating a festive atmosphere in Tamil Nadu.

Batting first, Karnataka posted a decent total of 151/7 after a poor start. In reply, Tamil Nadu lost half their team by the 18th over and needed 30 runs from 12 balls. Shah Rukh then hit a six and a four off Vidyadhar Patil in the final over to bring the equation down to 16 for six before sealing the title with the final ball.
Winning the toss, Tamil Nadu captain Vijay Shankar elected to bowl first and his spinners justified their decision by overtaking Karnataka’s top three batsmen including Rohan Kadam (0) and Manish Pandey (13). -Form Karun Nair (18).
After this, Abhinav Manohar and BR Sharath started the innings with a 55-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Manohar missed his half-century by four runs before some hit hits from Praveen Dubey (33 off 25) and Jagdish Suchit (18 off seven).
The Karnataka bowlers then put on a combined performance to tie the Tamil Nadu batsmen as they struggled to score quickly. He didn’t lose wickets in the heap, but neither did he manage to score at a decent clip.
He was responsible for well-set Shankar (18 off 22) and N Jagadeesan (41 off 46) as spinner KC Cariappa (2/23)’s double-strike in the 16th over helped Tamil Nadu’s largely hit expectations.
However, Shah Rukh smashed three sixes and a four during his unbeaten innings, dashing Karnataka’s hopes in the final over. He was also adjudged the Player of the Match for his match-winning innings.
