New CM Charanjit Channi’s convoy reached Raj Bhavan.
Governor BL Purohit will administer the oath to the new Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi at 11 am today. For this Channi has reached Raj Bhavan. Along with Channi, two deputy CMs can also take oath. In this, the name of Brahmamohindra was declared earlier. However, due to being close to his captain, now OP Soni can be the deputy CM in his place. Apart from him, Sukhjinder Randhawa, who kept on becoming CM, will also be the Deputy CM. Soni is a Hindu leader while Randhawa is from Jatt Sikh community. Till now, the Jatt Sikh community has been the chief minister in Punjab.
Channi is the first Dalit Chief Minister in the history of Punjab. Channi managed to get the CM’s chair with the support of Punjab Congress President Navjot Sidhu. The chair fell vacant after the resignation of Captain Amarinder Singh.
DGP Dinkar Gupta reached Raj Bhavan for the preparations for the swearing-in of the new CM.
After the oath, an eye on the cabinet
The cabinet will be monitored after Charanjit Channi takes oath. Channi has been the Minister of Technical Education till now. Which ministry will he have now? Congress’s Masterstroke
- Assembly elections are going to be held in Punjab after 5 months. In such a situation, it is being considered as a masterstroke of the Congress to cultivate the Dalit vote bank. Punjab has 32% Dalit population. 34 out of 117 seats are reserved. On the other hand, Channi may be a Dalit leader, but belongs to the Sikh community. In this sense, Congress can get a big political benefit from it. Especially, the dominance of the Congress can increase in the Doaba area of Punjab, which is called Dalit Land.
- By making Hindu leader Brahmamohindra Deputy CM, Congress has also tried to tap the Hindu vote bank. This is important because the Hindu vote bank always goes with the BJP. However, given the personal image of the Captain, he also continued to get benefit from the cities.
- Sukhjinder Randhawa is being made Deputy CM so that the Jatt Sikh community is not angry. Till now this community has been giving CM face to Punjab. This vote bank is believed to be of Akali Dal. However, in 2017 on the issue of sacrilege, it splintered towards the Aam Aadmi Party. Randhawa can be given a strong profile if the cabinet is formed. New challenge for opponents

Akali Dal had talked about making one Hindu and one Dalit as Deputy CM. Congress broke it by making Hindu and Jatt Sikh Deputy CM.
