Suspected case of monkeypox found in Nepal

Monkeypox: A suspected case of monkeypox has been reported in Nepal. According to reports, a Nepalese youth with international travel history is suspected of having monkeypox virus. The man has been kept under observation at the Sukarraj Tropical and Infectious Diseases Hospital (STIDH) in Teku, Kathmandu, IANS reported. According to STIDH, the suspected patient had come from Dubai and is being monitored after he showed symptoms like monkeypox. The 27-year-old had developed fever on Thursday and had red blisters on his body and hands. The hospital said that his health is normal at present.

Infectious disease expert Sher Bahadur Pun said that a sample has been sent to the National Public Health Laboratory to find out whether the blisters on the young man’s body and hands were caused by monkeypox virus.

Meanwhile, the number of monkeypox cases in the UK exceeded 500 on Wednesday, according to the latest official figures.

The UK Health Protection Agency (UKHSA) said it had detected 52 additional monkeypox cases in England, one in Scotland and one in Wales, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Britain to 524 as of Tuesday.

In the US, cases of monkeypox continued to rise, reaching 72, according to the latest figures from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Cases were found in 18 states, with California and New York reporting 15 each, reports Xinhua news agency.
