Surat: Special Operation Group (SOG) officials recovered a bag containing jewelery worth Rs 1.5 lakh within two hours of being misplaced in an auto rickshaw. The police traced the rickshaw from a rickshaw stand about four kilometers away.

The relatives got off the rickshaw and went to their destination but after a while they realized that they had forgotten to take their bags. They returned to the spot to hunt for the rickshaw, but could not be traced despite a search for over an hour.
“The police were alerted around 1 pm. After checking the CCTV footage and collecting other information we traced the rickshaw till 3 pm,” said RS Suvera, police inspector, SOG.
Police identified the rickshaw and its registration number from the CCTV footage and also recovered its address. Since it was a rented accommodation, they came to know that the rickshaw owner had changed residence. The police then traced the rickshaw by interrogating a garage at various locations from where they could have retained the bag.
“The family has come for the post-funeral rituals and accidentally lost the bag in the rickshaw. Police quickly recovered the bag and returned the valuables,” said city police commissioner Ajay Tomar.
