Supreme Court dismisses telecom companies’ plea for rectification of ‘errors’ in AGR calculation – Times of India

New Delhi: Supreme court dismissed a petition on Friday telecom companies For correction of alleged errors in Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) calculation.
The top court in September last year had given telecom companies a 10-year period to clear their pending AGR dues to the central government with 10 per cent payment every year.
The company was given a deadline of March 31, 2021 for the first installment.

The matter returned to the court after they disputed the calculation done by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for not depositing the amount disputed and claiming that they had already deposited more than 10 per cent of the amount.

The companies have also accused DoT of making arithmetical errors in calculations with respect to AGR dues and want the court to direct the DoT to consider their submissions.
Major telecommunications companies, including vodafone-idea And Bharti Airtel, is outstanding in substantial amounts to DoT.
The total liability on Vodafone-Idea is Rs 58,254 crore, while Bharti Airtel owes Rs 43,980 crore and Tata Teleservices owes Rs 16,798 crore to the government.
