The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Punjab Police not to arrest SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a drug case till February 23 so that he can campaign in the state.

A bench of Chief Justice NV Ramana and Justices AS Bopanna and Hema Kohli, however, directed Majithia to surrender before the trial court after the February 20 Punjab Assembly elections.

It also directed the trial court to hear and expeditiously decide Majithia’s regular bail plea after he surrendered in the case.

Majithia’s pre-arrest bail plea, on which a case was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act on December 20 last year, was dismissed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on January 24. An appeal has been filed in the apex. Court.
