Sunil Narine will return to WI team once he has faith in his action: Kieron Pollard

West Indies T20I captain Kieron Pollard is hopeful that all-rounder Sunil Narine will regain his confidence once he has been warned of questionable action in last year’s Indian Premier League (IPL).

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner was reported for suspicious bowling action after the match against Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2020 in Abu Dhabi.

Although Narine was put on the warning list by the IPL’s Suspicious Bowling Action Committee, he was later cleared and also played four matches in the suspended 2021 IPL season.

Narine, who has not played for West Indies since August 2019, is not in the national T20I squad, which began the five-match series against South Africa with an eight-wicket win here on Saturday.

“He (Narayan) had indicated to the selectors that he might be available after the IPL. Then, the IPL was halved, so he may not have had the necessary preparation or confidence in his action, so he indicated that he is still not ready. “We’ll play it by ear,” Pollard told ESPNcricinfo.

Naren is under investigation for suspicious action since 2014.

Narine could have played a key role in the ICC T20 World Cup to be held in India or UAE later this year but now the team may have to function without him.

On West Indies’ preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup in the backdrop of the recent two-Test loss to South Africa in St Lucia, Pollard said, “We have good results in the ICC tournament and I don’t want to change that. It’s just that when it comes to this kind of (bilateral) series, it’s all about the players being available or not. In the World Cup, we get the people we want to play, play.”
