The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday arrested TMC leader’s daughter Sukanya in Delhi on charges of money laundering related to an alleged cattle smuggling case.

The TMC, whose strongman leader Anubrata Mandal’s daughter was arrested by the ED on Wednesday, said the party maintains “zero tolerance” for corruption, but the BJP should not indulge in vendetta politics against its political opponents.

The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday arrested TMC leader’s daughter Sukanya in Delhi on charges of money laundering related to an alleged cattle smuggling case.

Reacting to Sukanya’s arrest, TMC state spokesperson Kunal Ghosh told a TV channel that the party would not be on the side of any wrongdoer as it has ‘zero tolerance’ towards corruption. “But we wonder whether Sukanya could not have been interrogated outside the prison earlier.” He said, “We (TMC) are grappling with the idea whether this arrest is another manifestation of vendetta politics by the BJP” and expressed hope that the probe by the central agency would be fair and impartial.

Ghosh, who is also the state general secretary of the TMC, wondered why the central agencies did not take any action against BJP leaders whose names cropped up in monetary scams and were not questioned “even once” by the probe agencies.

“Why no action has been taken against BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari despite his name appearing in the Saradha and Narada scams? Why was BJP leader Dilip Ghosh not questioned even once when his name appears on a piece of land papers in the possession of a person?” was found in the copy.” Accused in teacher recruitment scam? We want CBI and ED to be fair in their investigation.”

BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar said the ED probe has found that Sukanya amassed wealth disproportionate to her known sources of income within a few years.

“She is young and has been a primary school teacher for a short time. But she has millions in her account. Where did she get so much money?” He asked.

Mazumdar said that according to reports, she is not cooperating with the investigators. “Now after the ED takes them into custody, the money trail will be known,” he added.

Even before Sukanya, the ED had questioned several times.

TMC’s Birbhum district president Anubrata Mandal was arrested by the CBI in August last year for his alleged involvement in cattle smuggling and was also named in the charge sheet filed by the agency in the matter. He was arrested by the ED, which is also probing the money trail.
