Sudan’s paramilitary RSF says will abide by short-term ceasefire

Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) said on Sunday that it was fully committed to abiding by the newly-agreed short-term ceasefire with the Sudanese army.

In a statement, RSF said, “We reaffirm our full commitment to the ceasefire … to deliver humanitarian aid, to open the way for civilians and to provide whatever it takes to alleviate the suffering of our people.”

“Today we are more insistent and determined … to break this vicious circle that is unjustly and tyrannically controlling the fate of our people.”

A week-long ceasefire deal signed by the army and rival RSF on Saturday after talks in the Saudi city of Jeddah is set to take effect on Monday evening with an internationally backed monitoring mechanism.
