In a major development, Iran’s foreign ministry has summoned Switzerland’s ambassador to Tehran over a social media post that featured Iranian protest icon Mahsa Amini.

Significantly, after the death of 22-year-old Amini in September, anti-government protests started in many parts of the country. According to several media reports, she was detained after Iranian morality police found her allegedly violating the country’s strict Islamic dress code.

A website affiliated with Iran’s state television called YJC.ir reported that Swiss ambassador Nadine Lozano was summoned after a Twitter account affiliated with the embassy in Tehran published a photo of Amini.

The Twitter account associated with the Swiss embassy in Tehran also posted a photo of the revolutionary flag from before Iran’s current democracy came to power.

The post states that the Swiss Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the recent execution of three Iranian protesters.

Iran kills three protesters

Iran announced the executions of Majid Kazemi, Saleh Mirahshemi and Saeed Yaghoubi on Friday, without specifying how the deaths were carried out.

Authorities allege they killed a police officer and two members of the paramilitary Basij group in the city of Isfahan in November during demonstrations.

Iranian officials have repeatedly accused Western powers of fomenting the unrest without providing any evidence.
