Suchetana also confirmed to have taken the necessary legal steps before going for the surgery.

Actress and rights activist Ushashi Chakraborty, who was also a speaker at the seminar, told IANS that it is not easy for someone like Suchetna, whose father is a former chief minister of the state, to come out so boldly and announce such a decision .

“I think the bold step taken by Suchetna will encourage many more people to come out of the closet and express their feelings. Many are afraid to speak out. The more people come forward, the more the social movement on this issue will be. Steps taken by individuals like Suchetna will definitely have a big impact on the society,” Chakraborty said.

Kaushik Gupta, senior advocate of the Calcutta High Court and a prominent face of the LGBTQ movement in Kolkata, also agreed with Chakraborty on this point.

“The idea is to establish freedom of choice and freedom of expression. There have been cases of people undergoing sex reassignment surgery in the past as well. Their initiative to encourage others to come out of the closet is equally commendable. But when The background someone comes from, the reputation gets exposed on such an issue, it has a big impact on the society,” said Gupta.
