28 January 2022, day Friday. It was the best day of our life. On this day the High Court has stamped our love. Aarti’s family members and her lawyer tried their best to separate us. Intimidated us. Aarti was stopped from giving statement in the court. Meanwhile, Justice Nandita Dubey spoke to Aarti on mobile. Aarti told the atrocities being committed on camera for two years. Told me to stay with me. This is the moment, which is found after two years of hellish life. We are happy away from the city….

I am Gulzar 8th pass. Aarti and my house are in the neighborhood of each other in Gorakhpur (Jabalpur). Aarti has studied till 10th standard. We fell in love four years ago in 2018. We started meeting secretly. Two years ago i.e. in 2020, the information about this relationship came to the families of both. After this, strictness was started on behalf of Aarti’s family.

Aarti’s father did not approve of our relationship. Aarti’s studies were released. She remained imprisoned in her own house. But sometimes we used to meet secretly. Talked on mobile. Aarti’s family members used to beat her. He had done this many times.

We decided to get married. My family members agreed. In 2020 we reached Jabalpur Collectorate. When the SDM reached the court, Aarti’s father’s friend Sonu Yadav was found there. He told the whole thing at Aarti’s house. The family members beat up Aarti fiercely. Aarti’s father picked her up and slammed her. There was a fracture in his back bone. She was admitted for a month in different hospitals. It took him a year to fully recover.

We understood that getting married in Jabalpur is difficult. I came to know about Subhash Singh of Lead India Group based in Delhi. On December 27, both of us ran from Jabalpur to Mumbai by train. On the 28th, both of us directly reached the Bandra court and got married. There Kanchan madam helped us. Lead India Group helps in organizing such marriages. Registered marriage in BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation). Gave information from speed post to family members and Gorakhpur police station of Jabalpur.

Here, Aarti’s family members lodged her missing complaint at Omati police station (Jabalpur). Omati police came to Mumbai after tracing the location from mobile. Aarti’s father’s friend Sonu Yadav was also with him. I was beaten up in front of the police. The police took us to Nirmal police station in Mumbai. From there brought it to Jabalpur. In the train, the police kept taking note of Aarti’s statement.

We were dropped at Madanmahal station at 4 pm on 12 January. Sonu and Aarti’s family members also followed behind in the jeep. We were intimidated at Omati police station. The police confiscated all the marriage documents. Did not inform my family members. In the night I was sent to Civil Lines police station. At 12.30 pm on January 13, the Omati police again took him back. Pressurized in the police station to tell Aarti, she should go to her house. I refused and asked Aarti to be produced in the court, but was beaten up badly.

Omati police threatened to send him to jail by putting a case of ganja. It was said that their lives would be ruined. Our intentions have not changed. Aarti hugged outside the court and told that the police beat her too. Say very dirty words. From there, Aarti was dragged and handed over to her family members. He tried to run away by jumping from the moving vehicle. His condition was made like a lunatic. I was beaten so much in the police station that I fainted. Got me admitted to Victoria. When I recovered, I was released.

Both have now started a new life.

Both have now started a new life.

Aarti was sent by her family members to her maternal grandmother in Ghazipur (Uttar Pradesh). I didn’t know what to do? A week later, Aarti got a call that she was being held hostage there. He also tried to hang himself. Mama had saved him by breaking the door. There he did not eat food for 7 days.

Aarti was dead for the family. His clothes were burnt till the fourth. In two years of torture, Aarti attempted suicide four times. Finally, I spoke again to Subhash Singh of Delhi-based Lead India Group. He asked to file a Habeas Corpus Writ (Habeas Corpus is that system of law under which anyone can complain about someone being held hostage illegally) in the High Court. We filed Habeas Corpus writ in Jabalpur High Court on 17th January through Advocates Junaid Khan and Sachendra Raghuvanshi. Along with this, complaint was also lodged in Gorakhpur police station.

Gorakhpur TI asks Aarti’s family members to present the girl. On January 27, Aarti got a call that she was being brought to Jabalpur. She came that night. He told me to stay with me at Gorakhpur police station. At night, Aarti was sent to her father’s friend Sonu Yadav’s house. There he was again intimidated. On the morning of 28, Aarti was taken to the Gorakhpur Police High Court.

The Jabalpur High Court had ruled 27-year-old Gulzar and 19-year-old Aarti Sahu to live together. The Gorakhpur (Jabalpur) police ordered the security of the couple. Now we are going to start a new life…
