Police sources said on Saturday that a few days back, two groups of students clashed at the University College in the city over some students putting up photographs of Veer Savarkar and Bharat Mata in the classroom. The pictures were removed by the college authorities the next day following complaints from other students. A video of students being photographed by the students had gone viral on social media.
Three students who sustained minor injuries in the clash have been admitted to the hospital. Sources said the issue was raised again on Friday after a group of students quarreled with other students, who had complained to the principal about the pictures, which led to the clash.
Both the student groups have lodged complaints with Mangaluru South Police. The investigation is on, the police said. College principal Anasuya Rai said the students involved in the clash would be identified and disciplinary action would be taken against them after an internal inquiry.
