Strong judiciary helps protect democratic values: Vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar | Jaipur News – Times of India

JAIPUR: Vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar said democracy is best nurtured when all constitutional institutions are wholesomely in sync and confine to their respective domain.
He was speaking at a felicitation function organised by the Bar Council of Rajasthan at Mansarovar in Jaipur on Thursday.
Dhankhar said, “Spinally strong, fair and independent judicial and justice system is the safest guarantee to blossoming and flourishing of democratic values and bar has a critical role to play in this.”
Recalling his days as the West Bengal governor, Dhankhar said he once told his wife that after his term comes to an end, he will go to the legal profession but she said it won’t happen.
He said, his candidature for the post of the vice president came as a surprise to him. “It absolutely came as a big surprise to me, but it fructified her wish,” he said.
Expressing gratitude to the Bar, he said his life has been shaped by lawyers and judges.
Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court M M Shrivastava, chairman of Bar Council Sunil Beniwal and others were also present in the function.
Dhankhar along with his spouse Dr Sudesh Dhankhar arrived in Rajasthan on an official tour, his first to his home state, after assuming the post. During the trip, he visited a number of holy places and attended felicitation programmes organised in his honour at his native village Kithana in Jhunjhunu district.
He visited the Khatu Shyam Mandir and Shri Balaji Salasar Dham in Churu before leaving for Jaipur.
Governor Kalraj Mishra and minister Mamta Bhupesh and senior officials welcome him at the airport.
