Strong and unanimous message of support for efforts to bring back all Indians from Ukraine: EAM

new Delhi: External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, who held an advisory committee meeting on developments in Ukraine in the national capital on Thursday, made a presentation about the evacuation of Indians from the war-torn nation and the current situation.

The foreign minister clarified and said that the students had doubts about their academic status, adding the Ukrainian government was being assured on the situation, sources said, ANI reported.

Sources said Congress leaders present in the meeting supported the government’s stand to abstain from voting at the UNSC.

The External Affairs Minister also tweeted about the meeting and thanked all the members for their participation.

“Meeting of the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of External Affairs on Development in Ukraine just completed. Good discussion on the strategic and humanitarian aspects of the issue. Strong and unanimous message of support for the efforts to bring back all Indians from Ukraine,” Jaishankar tweeted.

“A national consensus on the importance of dialogue and diplomacy. Thanks to all members for their participation,” he wrote on the micro-blogging platform.

Congress leaders Shashi Tharoor and Anand Sharma were also present in the meeting.

The meeting assumes significance as it is taking place a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s telephonic conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the Ukraine conflict.

“The leaders reviewed the situation in Ukraine, especially in Kharkiv city where many Indian students are stranded. They discussed the safe evacuation of Indian citizens from conflict zones,” the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said in a statement.

The Central Government has accelerated the process of evacuating the stranded Indians from Ukraine.
