Mysuru: The 42-km-long Outer Ring Road, now under the management of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), will get street lights.
All three agencies—service provider Mysore Municipal Corporation, developer Mysore Urban Development Authority, and NHAI, which took over control five years ago—were at loggerheads over the installation of street lights, causing major inconvenience to commuters.
Mysore Mp Pratap Simha called a meeting with mcc And Youth officials recently. After intervention, the three agencies came together and held a meeting on Saturday, and decided to resolve one of the long pending problems. In the meeting, it was decided to hand over the responsibility of maintenance of street lights on the stretch to MCC.
Despite strict patrolling by both patrol cars and police vehicles on the highway, the lack of street lights is a cause of concern for commuters amid increasing robberies and unethical activities on the road.
Speaking to TOI, MCC commissioner G Laxmikanth Reddy said that MCC has decided to retain the street lights from now on as Muda agreed to provide Rs 12 crore in the meeting held before MP. “Apart from these funds, MCC will also spend around Rs 2-3 crore for ensuring street lights along the stretch. Tender for this will be floated next week.
