Stranger Things S4 Volume 2 review: A fitting end to the season with more horror, heartbreak and quirks

Stranger Things is officially no longer a children’s show and if the first segment of the fourth season wasn’t enough to make us understand, then comes the second segment which breaks down all the comfort and thrill that comes from watching this show. The Duffer brothers left no stone unturned this season and brought together the best in their cast. The second segment starts from where the first one ended, with Vecna revealing that he is number one. He shows Nancy a vision of his past and plans for his future so that she can warn Eleven.

Eleven, on the other hand, is still in the secret facility, and Hopper and the team are trapped in Russia. Will, Mike, Jonathan and Argyle are on their way to rescue Eleven from the facility. Back at Hawkins, the rest of the group, consisting of Steve, Nancy, Robin, Eddie, Dustin, Lucas, his sister, and Max, plan to go to Wacna before he can commit his fourth and final murder and move between his realm and our realm. to shatter the entrance. , This season, for the first time, the entire team hasn’t been brought together, but they have been strategically placed exactly where they need to be.

Without Eleven, Team Hawkins suffers a major setback but our favorite nerds always know how to find a way. They learn that Vecna is at their weakest while making a kill and decide to meet at the Upside Down. While they are at it, Mike’s group manage to save Eleven but Dr. Brenner aka L’s father dies at the hands of government agents. Realizing they can’t get back to Hawkins in time, Eleven comes up with a plan to attack Max’s mind and help him from there. The plan works when Vecna also attacks his memory and she brings him to Eleven.

Meanwhile, in Russia, Hopper and his group find the brains trapped in a Russian prison and come to the conclusion that if they kill them, it will buy the children sometime. In this way, they all contribute to defeating Vecna, not actually together.

The season is full of action, has a layered plot and has also cut down on its last innocence. But there are some moments that shatter, to say the least. First of all, we would like to talk about Will Byers and how the makers are adamant on making his life difficult. The show began with her disappearing into the Upside Down and subsequent seasons showed how she is still not free from that curse. The third season has him feeling out of place, but the fourth and final season of the series forces him to struggle with his identity and question his sense of belonging.

Although Will didn’t come out as gay this season, his monologue to Mike and his reaction to him and Eleven getting together was beautifully transformed by actor Noah. Her brother Jonathan understands why Will can’t be outspoken about her feelings, so he reassures her that nothing in this world can replace his love for her. The comforting scene between the brothers also doubles as a reassuring message to those still struggling that they are not alone.

This season’s fan-favorite character Eddie also has his moments, like performing a Metallica song at the top of his trailer in the Upside Down and fighting bravely in the face of adversity. But we did not like the fate that met our comfort character. Another highlight of the season was the camaraderie and chemistry between Max and Lucas. The latter gives his most mature and intense performance.

Fighting Vecna, or the one who has been behind all of last season’s attacks, comes with a big price and the group had to pay it to the end. Sensing an impending war, the season ends with the group now reunited.

As we said in our previous review that the makers have not played safe in this season and have taken the risk which can make or break the show. Good for him, things work out in his favor and we would say that the fourth season is nothing like what we have seen before in this series.

Stranger Things Season 4 is currently streaming on Netflix.
