Stranger Things 5: These Key Characters From Original Cast Unlikely To Return For Finale

The Upside Down is experiencing a shift in its cast as Hawkins gears up for its final season in Stranger Things. Despite the Duffer Bros’ initial stance on avoiding casting changes, some familiar faces are set to say their goodbyes. Eduardo Franco, known for his role as Argyle, has confirmed his departure from the finale. Below is a list of cast members who might not be returning for the concluding season.

Eduardo Franco (Argyle)

Eduardo Franco, known for portraying Argyle in Stranger Things, has officially announced that he will not be returning to reprise his role. During an interview on the Steve Varley Show, Franco revealed that he never received a phone call regarding his involvement in the final season. Despite expressing appreciation for the level of concern shown, he confirmed his departure by stating, “I never received a phone call, so I believe that’s the situation.”

Joseph Quinn (Eddie Munson)

Joseph Quinn, who portrayed Eddie Munson in Stranger Things 4, delivered a heroic sacrifice that marked a fitting conclusion to his character’s journey. Eddie, known for facing judgment, courageously sacrificed himself to protect Hawkins. Despite online speculation about the possibility of his return as an “undead” character, there is no confirmation regarding Joseph Quinn’s involvement in Season 5. Quinn’s absence from the main cast photo released by the franchise further diminishes the likelihood of his return, debunking fan theories about a potential comeback as a “Vampire.”

Matthew Modine, the actor who portrayed Dr. Martin Brenner, is expressing hope for an unexpected return in Stranger Things Season 5, similar to his surprise appearance in Season 4. Despite Dr. Brenner being officially killed off in Season 4, with the show creators implying his permanent demise, Modine remains eager to rejoin the series. However, his absence from the poster, combined with the assertion that his character is ‘dead for good,’ casts doubt on the possibility of his return.

In a conversation with RadioTimes.com, Modine shared his optimism, stating, “I hope that there’s some way to resuscitate Dr. Brenner and put him in Season 5 because it would be wonderful to be part of the last season. Well, we didn’t see him dead – he was just lying there in the dirt. He’s survived the Demogorgon, he survived Vecna in episode 1 of Season 4.”
