India rebukes Pakistan’s remarks on Jammu and Kashmir at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Geneva, asserting its stance firmly

Asking Pakistan to stop its “terror factories” that launch countless cross-border attacks, India on Friday slammed its neighbouring country for raking of the issue of Jammu and Kashmir on an international platform meant to discuss the issue of Parliamentary diplomacy.

Representing India at the 148th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Geneva, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh, said “Lectures from a country with an abysmal record of democracy are laughable.”

“I take the floor to reject the preposterous comments made by Pakistan against my country. India is the largest democracy in the world, and it’s my privilege that many consider India a model to be emulated. Lectures from a country with an abysmal record of democracy are laughable,” he said in India’s right-to-reply.

‘Absurd and false allegations’

India’s response came as Pakistan continues to engage in hostile and fabricated propaganda to vilify India, and to divert attention from its domestic political and economic failures. India has completely and unequivocally rejected all actions and statements by Pakistan on matters which are completely internal to India.

The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is an international organisation that brings together national parliaments. At the IPU, Pakistan brought up the issue of Jammu and Kashmir. In response, the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman said, “It would be better if Pakistan did not undermine the importance of a platform like IPU with such absurd and false allegations,” he said. Regarding the territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Harivansh stated that it would always be an integral and inalienable part of India, and no amount of propaganda can override this fact.

‘Stop terror factories’

Harivansh asserted that “Pakistan would be well-advised to stop its terror factories that continue to launch countless cross-border terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir while farcically claiming to champion the cause of human rights.” He also reminded the council that Pakistan has a well-established history of harbouring, aiding, and actively supporting terrorists.

“Let me remind you that the face of global terrorism, Osama Bin Laden, was found in Pakistan. The country Pakistan holds the ignoble record of hosting one of the largest numbers of terrorist groups proscribed by the UN Security Council. I trust that Pakistan will draw the lessons for the good of its own people,” he added.
