Stock Market Calendar: Is the Stock Market Open Today? View BSE, NSE, MCX Trading Hours

Indian stock market NSE (National Stock Exchange) and BSE (formerly Bombay Stock Exchange) will cease its operations on Friday, 19 November. Trading processes will be stopped on the day of Guru Nanak Jayanti. On this note, one must note that this year it is the last day when the stock markets will be closed for a holiday other than the weekend. As per the calendar, the segments which will remain closed on BSE on Friday are Equity Segment, Equity Derivatives Segment and Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB). It comes more than a month after the Dussehra holiday, which was on October 15.

Commodity markets will remain closed for the morning session on October 15. In the evening session, regular business will take place as per the schedule. For traders in commodities, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will remain closed for the first time between 9 am to 5 pm on Friday. It will be open from 5 pm to 11.30 pm during the second part of the session. The National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) will remain closed during the morning session from 9 am to 5 pm and will resume operations from 5 pm to 9 pm.

The stock market will also remain closed for regular weekend holidays on November 20 and 21, i.e. Saturday and Sunday. This means equity exchanges will reopen for trading after three days on Monday only.

Sensex tumbled 372 points on Thursday tracking losses in major indices L&T, Infosys and TCS amid negative trend in global markets. According to a PTI report, the 30-share index ended 372.32 points or 0.62 per cent lower at 59,636.01. Similarly, the NSE Nifty fell 133.85 points or 0.75 per cent to end at 17,764.80. M&M was the top loser in the Sensex pack, falling over 3 per cent, followed by Tech Mahindra, L&T, HCL Tech, Tata Steel and IndusInd Bank. On the other hand, SBI, PowerGrid, HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries and HUL were among the gainers.

In the context of a weak global market, metal and crude oil prices increased contraction, leading to a fall in the Indian market. In the broader market, One97 Communications Ltd., Paytm’s parent company, crashed nearly 27 per cent in its market debut on Thursday. The Rs 18,300 crore IPO of Paytm, the country’s biggest initial share sale, was subscribed 1.89 times last week.

During the holiday-trimmed week, the Sensex fell 1,050.68 points or 1.73 per cent, while the Nifty fell 337.95 points or 1.86 per cent. All sectoral indices closed in the red on Thursday with BSE Metal, Auto, Capital Goods, Basic Materials and Industrial indices falling 2.76 per cent. BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices fell up to 1.68 per cent. Elsewhere in Asia, shares ended with losses in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Seoul.

According to the BSE calendar, there were three holidays in the stock market in November due to Diwali. BSE, NSE were closed for Diwali Lakshmi Pujan, 4th November (Thursday) and Diwali Balipratipada, 5th November (Friday) before 19th November i.e. today.

There were 14 holidays in the stock market in 2021. Markets remained closed for three days in April, the highest in any month – Good Friday on April 2, Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14 and Ram Navami on April 21.
